The Red Kettle campaign, first started in San Francisco in 1891, has traditionally been The Salvation Army’s most prominent fund-raiser. In 2004, the Salvation Army raised over $100 million in communities nationwide, with the spare change all being put to good use in the towns where the money was deposited into the kettles.
